Conflict: Painful or full of opportunity and potential

When you hear the word conflict, what do you associate with it? Is it pain, hurt, arguments, or maybe disrespect, lack of understanding, and lack of love?
What if I told you that I see opportunities, possibilities and potential.

A few weeks after I got married, I was asked by a friend, how many arguments we have in our marriage. Hesitantly I said, ‘Well, one big one every week.’ His response was shocking. He said, ‘I think you don’t have enough conflict.’

‘What?’, I thought he was crazy. More conflict? I already have enough of it. I thought a relationship should seek to be harmonious and passionate rather than full of shouting and arguing.

Then he suggested something that changed my life and transformed my relationship. Conflicts are unavoidable because we are all different. Instead of fighting our differences, we should use those moments of conflict as opportunities to get to know our differences and then use them to our advantage by appreciating them.

The more I saw how my wife differs to me, the more I was fascinated how well she compliments me, how her strengths cover my weaknesses and my strengths hers.
