When we think about relationships we desire harmony. Is that true for you? What if I told you that harmony is not the absence of conflict but its very presence.
For many, harmony in a relationship is like riding on the same wave. We are always together, we always understand each other, we never differ. But, do you know, what one sound wave sounds like? Yes, it is a single tone — a boring hum. Musical harmony, on the other hand, is made of at least two tones — a full harmony has at least three. And if you would look at the graphs of those sound waves you would realise they only meet every now and again. The rest of the time there is a tension between them. Most of the time these waves are in conflict.
The important ingredient to make this conflict sound nice, however, is tuning.
A beautiful harmony is basically tuned conflict. If you want to find true harmony in a relationship then I want to encourage you to learn to tune your conflicts. Then your differences become the harmony of love that you desire.
